One more less anonymous scrub

Scott Hairston is apparently back. Now it will be a dogfight for the left handed outfield bat off the bench.

What, Adam Loewen and Mike Baxter don't get your adrenaline pumped? How about Vinny Rottino? You always had a soft spot for catchers!

Vinny Rottino?

He's Vinny Barbarino's cousin, right?

you don't understand "moneyball"...it's all about finding players that nobody else values, and then justifying them, and transforming a team from a .300 team into a .500 team that still is mediocre at [sign in to see URL] with "moneyball" is that it might work in a traditionally crappy division like the AL West or either of the 2 central divisions but it's not going to cut it in the AL East or the NL East because there is simply too much talent here...

whenever I think of the A's "moneyball" nonsense, I think of the case of Scott Hatteberg:

Transforming a crappy Red Sox catcher that doesn't even hit well enough to be a decent catcher, into a starting first baseman for the A's and telling us that he's got winning intangibles that nobody has [sign in to see URL], only reason that "worked" was because the AL West [sign in to see URL] was an awful first baseman...

Oh I understand the "moneyball" concept, I just don't think that's seriously the direction the Mets are going in, whether or not we've got Sandy Alderson at the helm.
