Does anyone take Father's Day seriously?
I mean other than the mundane facebook tributes to their dead parents...
Mother's day is a big thing...but Father's day seems to be treated like a joke...

Re:
Well, the role of a father is generally taken for granted in most households. Other than (often) being the primary breadwinner, fathers are usually the source of ridicule and derision on comedies. Other than Lucy, pretty much it's fathers that are the object of embarrassment.
My dogs love their Daddy every day of the year, not just when the calendar says they should. Maybe that's the way to think of how two-legged children behave.

Re:
I don't know what you mean...everyone I know of takes it seriously. If my dad were still with us, we would definitely be giving it just as much emphasis as Mother's Day.
Is this because I didn't come in and put up a Happy Father's Day thread for you and Hit? I figured no-one bothers looking in here anyway and you'd both see it on FB so I didn't bother. Sorry.

Re:
actually I was a little perturbed that my one daughter never said Happy Father's Day, but instead yelled at me about her mother...and my son never made any contact at all yesterday...
and then I realized that I don't ever remember them doing anything for it before either...heaven forbid that you don't get a mother a gift, take her out and say something about it, but I don't ever remember Father's Day getting the same level of respect...it's more like Secretary Day on the list of celebrations...

Re:
Glad you didn't, Hit. And I certainly hope you both had a good Father's Day. Sorry your kids didn't pay it more mind, vt, that's too bad!
