Another Sweathog gone...

Ron Palillo, who played nerdy sweathog Arnold Horshack, has died at the age of 63 of an apparant heart attack.

He had a rough time of it after Welcome Back, Kotter ended but still loved the character that had made his name.

Personally, I'm sad to hear it...when all of my friends were oohing and aahing over John Travolta's Barbarino, I was always a major Horshack fan...he was my favorite.

Godspeed, Ron...you'll be missed. emoticon

I agree...Vinny Barbarino was the weakest part of the show IMO, a little too much of a Fonzie copycat...

Horseshack was one of those characters like Radar O'Reily that was just so classic...

He was relatable...at least to this little, shy, nerdy kid. Always made me smile.

He was working as a teacher at a private school when he died. His obit also said he struggled after Kotter because he felt typecast as Arnold. It's unfortunate that he felt hamstrung by the role that made him famous.

I did a little reading about the cast in light of Pallilo's recent demise and the one who surprised me was the steady work gotten by none other than Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs aka Boom Boom Washington. I hadn't noticed him but he's worked pretty much non-stop.

Given the recent headlines about Mr. Travolta, I wonder if his, "I'm so confused!" line had some deeper meanings back then emoticon

Epstein was my favorite. Hated John Travolta still do. Sad to read about Ron...
