Back from fantasy world to...reality...

Just got back from a week's vacation in Florida with the family and my daughter's friend...

Stayed in Orlando for 3 days (went to Universal and the Titanic Museum) and then out to the Gulf Coast for the rest of the trip (my wife's family)...

Tuesday, the kids and I went to St Pete's Beach for the day and then to Tropicana Field for the Mets vs the St Petersburg Devil Rays (otherwise known as the Tampa Bay Rays)...Wifey stayed with family for the day so the rest of us could enjoy the day without her (I mean so that she could visit with family)...

the game was great, there were more Mets fans there than Rays fans...every time that a Met did something good, we drowned out the Rays fans...and when we took a 9-2 lead in the 7th, you could just see a mass exodus of Rays shirts/hats leaving the Dome...by the 9th, there was about 10,000 Mets fans left and about 500 Rays fans...Mets won 11-2...

Re: Back from fantasy world to...reality...

On the trip home last night...We had a 3 hour lay over in JFK Airport, and as much as I like Vermont and FLorida, it felt nice to be in NYC again where people act the way that my brain expect people to act (other than the dick that cut in front of me when I was waiting to order my food)...

and then when driving home from the airport (about a 3 mile drive), we heard a strange noise, so my son got out to look at a blinking light at 12:30 am...Our exhaust bracket had rusted away and broke when we had gone over a pothole...

no sooner did he get back in the car and we took off, that a cop out of nowhere, turned on the blue flashing lights and pulled us over...License & registration, and "do you know WHY I pulled you over?"...Explained that we just got back from FLorida and we heard a strange noise after going over a bump...

after running the car/license on the computer, comes back from the cop car and goes from being in "I'm giving you a ticket because I can" mode to "I'm going to do what I get paid by the tax payer's to do" mode and helps us out...

He had us drive to the nearest parking lot and puts the spot light on us so we can try to get the exhaust hung back up so it's not dragging...we tried everything in the car that we had and everything melted because of the heat...so he drives away and goes gets us a roll of twine and a knife to tie up the exhaust...While he was gone, I remembered that I had a belt in my suitcase...so when he got back we hung the exhaust with the belt and the twine...and then we are back on our journey home...

We get home and the whole area near our house smelled like skunk...and when we get in the house it got worse...I can't even tell you what the house smelled like...my son swore that it smelled fine when he left for work that night...

I was up until 3 am cleaning the house...changing both cat litters...taking every rug out of the house to air outside...mopping...lighting every Yankee Candle that we own, etc...

this morning it actually semi-smells ok...

but nothing like coming home from vacation....going from a brand new rental car to piece of !@#$ clunkers; from nice hotel and family homes, to a trainwreck that smells like a really bad jungle...from 90 degrees and sunny to 50 degrees...

but...it was nice to enjoy my own coffee in my favorite mug sitting at my computer chair relaxing without making anyone else happy this morning...

Man, what an adventure you had! Glad you got home safe even if it did stink when you got there.

At least you got a really good Mets game to watch. You should've told us you'd be there...we could've looked for you on TV! emoticon

So did you ever discover if you had a skunk on the premises?

so the exhaust repair cost about $450, pretty much everything after the catalytic converter was too rusted away to reuse...gotta love how much salt/brine they use on Vermont roads...

There's a reason I use a pet sitter -- well, three reasons -- Cash, Cary & Cory.

Same here Reese. On the rare occasions we go away we have someone come in and take care of the animals.

my son was home with the cats the entire week (other than when he worked)...and the cat litter boxes were relatively clean...

I found the source of the problem this morning just before I took a shower...I had put all the rugs/mats outside and had forgotten to bring the bathmat back inside...went to grab it, and nasty...gotta love male cats and their marking their territory nonsense...

Really Dude why didnt you tell us you were going??? I was thinking it was wild how many Mets fans were there, this is an AL team one step from the World Series and so many empty seats?

What did you think of the roof, did it suck and thats why the Mets looked like the bad news bears ?

oh and wild trip.. emoticon
