ESPN: Mets can't afford to re-sign Capuano...
Report: Mets move on from Capuano
November, 8, 2011
By Adam Rubin
Chris Capuano received a $1.5 million base salary with incentives this past season that brought the total to $3.925 million, but has now priced himself out of returning to the team, SI.com reported.
Capuano seeks a two-year deal, not something the Mets are in a position to consider, the report stated.

2 years of Capuano for, say, $6 million per year or one more year of Pelfrey for about $6 million...
Go for the old lefty. I think he showed flashes of his old self whereas Pelfrey showed flashes of Ollie.

Re: ESPN: Mets can't afford to re-sign Capuano...
I know people will say I'm nuts but I still think there's more to Pelfrey than we've seen. He got stuck in a lousy situation early in his career...having to basically carry the rotation after Santana went down before he was ready to do so...and I think he hasn't bounced back from it yet. But part of me still thinks he could.
That being said, I wouldn't blame the Mets for getting out from under his contract either.

Re: ESPN: Mets can't afford to re-sign Capuano...
I think they're assuming Carson, Wheeler, Harvey, Familia and/or Mejia will step forward to complement the best of Santana, Niese, Dickey and Gee in 2013. Consequently, I doubt you'll see ANY multiyear deals for starting pitching.
However, the high-risk/high-reward type of contracts that were handed out to the likes of Capuano and Young may be a route to take if they decide to non-tender Pelfrey who stands to earn far more than he's worth.
