Re: Cabrea requests trade

Good thing the Skipper communicates so well with his players that they always know where they stand. If only there was some technology invented that would let TC reach out and touch Cabrera while he is on rehab...but I think it was invented long past Collins' expiration date.

Seriously, Reese? I know you're a major Collins hater, and believe me I would be more than happy to see us get a new manager, but how does this one land on him? Cabrera is being an ass about it and had no business going to the press before he talked to management. I'm with Hit on this one...good riddance!

Cabrera is a selfish player and is far from blameless, but his BOSS never bothered to let him know what his plans were and Cabrera had to read about it in the media. That's unacceptable from any manager.

Re:

I see both sides on this one:

From the team's POV:

I think that TC is right to move his fielders to where he thinks that they will benefit the team the most...and while TC is crazy and senile, he sees that Cabrera has less range at short than Wilmer Flores had when TC was forced to play him at a regular basis at short a few years ago...

I also see that the only way that the Mets would want to pick up Ass'dribble's "option" would be as a 2nd baseman or as a utility guy backing up both SS/2B (with the SS position being Rosario's long term)...

I think most baseball people recognize that Cabrera doesn't possess shortstop skills at the mlb level anymore; and he doesn't have the Jeter/Larkin/Ripken bat to make up for how much his lack of skills keep pitcher's ERA from ballooning...and this type of pitching staff needs defense otherwise should be outs become basehits and snowball into runs without any real good hits in an inning...

From Cabrera's POV:

When he signed, he was told (why, I do not know) that he was "only going to play shortstop"...

He was asked earlier in the season to move to 3B: he flat out refused...so he probably also assumed that they realized that he didn't want to catch, play a corner IF, play the OF, pitch or even play 2nd...

While his team leaked to the press that they wanted him to play 2nd, they never actually asked/told him...and while he's had at least 2 rehabs, he didn't work out at 2nd since 2014 supposedly...

Re:

I can see Assdribbles point of using the 2 rehab games to play 2nd, the least Collins could have done was pick up the phone and call the manager.

On the other hand Cabrea has 8.5 million reasons to keep his mouth shut and speak to his agent.
If his option is anything more than 3 million the team could do far better.

I dont know where his rehab was but if they sat Rosario for rhat Im really pissed

It's an $8.5 million option vs. a $2 million buyout for 2018. I'm guessing if the Mets try to trade him and kick in the $2 million towards either salary or the buyout they could get something in return from another club's minor league system.

I have no problem with his being reluctant to switch positions (although SS to 2B is probably the easiest shift there is) but if he had a problem with it he should have talked to management instead of whining directly to the press. And yes, Collins could have let him know they were considering it. Still, there is no need to air the dirty laundry publicly.
